Welcome to the Website of the jurisdiction where it all began. We are so proud of the rich history of the Order of the Eastern Star in the District of Columbia, the most notable of which is that this jurisdiction has the historical distinction of being the birthplace of Eastern Stardom among Black women in the United States, when on December 1, 1874, Thornton Andrew Jackson established Queen Esther Chapter No. 1 in the home of Georgiana Henson Thomas at 708 O Street, N.W., Washington, DC.
